This is an updated Seitokai Yakuindomo OAD 22. It contains many subtitle fixes and greatly improved typesetting. I intended to use a different, much crisper video source, but was told that even though it looks better to me, they considered that other one an upscale, and they aren't allowed. I didn't want to waste all the effort I put into improving my translations and typesetting, though, so here is my v3. Maybe I will put up the 720p in Mega or something, I dunno. The reason this 480p is a larger filesize than my v2 is because I used Reinforced's raw this time, which contains FLAC audio. I am not tech savvy, so I can't really say what is different, better, or worse about that. Hope you guys find something in this to like. ^_^ If ever they do release the BD versions of this and the movie, I will re-do this. Until then. - ericfromabeno

Big thanks! I DLed the 720p as well, if somebody want it, it is still on animetosho. The movie also has a 720p version of it, here at nyaa in the non english section. The quality looks good to me, so if you want, you can make a 720p version from the movie also and upload to mega.

yeah, no problem ^_^ Kind of sad I'm not allow to use the other raw, since finding that online was the reason I went back and improved all my typesetting. But at least I can be happy that I did actually improve this ^_^. Some of the "suzu head"s were too much of a challenge for me to convincingly do, but I made lots of things prettier, so one or two head signs that were beyond me, isn't so bad. Don't ask how long I worked on this, though -_-...
I am grateful for every version of SYD, so I am happy, that you took the time to improve the last ova :)

it's embarrassing how many typos I had in the earlier version... -_-...
>they considered that other one an upscale We considered it an upscale because it is an upscale. It's from a DVD source, and the DVD video spec does not allow video with more than 576 pixels vertical resolution at most. There is no such thing as a 720p DVD. You cannot create entropy out of nowhere when upscaling, so the upscaled resolution is just bloat, and limits the scaling that the video player can do. If you can't find a non-upscaled encode that is good, then find the DVDISO, learn avisynth/vapoursynth and make your own. (You'll probably need to do inverse telecine, so knowing how to do that is recommended)

I can understand the idea of what you're talking about, but it doesn't change the reality that the 720p video I found on some Chinese website looks better on my 55 inch tv than either Reinforce's or Ohys's 480p video. Full screen, it has more detail, and sharper detail. So maybe I only assumed it was from a DVD, and really it was some Chinese guy's stolen BD source. The fact that there is a 1080p copy of the movie, from China, implies that something like that is at least possible. I realize that I don't understand fully what technical details are being dealt with by any given video players' decoding software.... Maybe VLC or Media Player, which I used to watch all the videos, have poorer decoders than other available players, and to everyone else, my 480p version is massively better looking of the three... Or maybe if I had access to a 75 inch screen rather than a 55 inch, I'd be able to clearly see that the 720p video I have is actually worse than the 480p video. Maybe the hardware and software in my 4K screen has advanced processing that makes up for the flaws in the 720p encode, I don't know. I'm not technically aware of the minutiae of the video encoding world... Anytime someone posts on their torrent all the details about the codec, the audio, the video, it's just so much witchcraft to me... :( All I know is that I would never have put up the 720p torrent in the first place if of the three raws I have access to, that 720p one wasn't the best looking choice, full screen. I can appreciate that Nyaa doesn't want to bloat with crap video, I totally get that. It's just frustrating that in this case it means that the choice that looks best to me is not allowed. Of course once the BD's come out it'll be a moot point ^_^ ... though when that happens I will probably want to redo the whole thing for better typesetting. 9_9...
"my 4k screen" This actually might be it. XD I remember demos at Fry's when 4k was barely a thing, some of the DVDs that looked fine on the 4k looked like a pile of pixels on regular 1080p screens, and the difference was chalked up to hardware upscalers in the 4k unit. Try comparing your sources on a 1080p screen instead and check if you can spot any "new" differences.
Sorry guys, could someone try and seed this link https://nyaa.iss.one/view/998938? I've been stuck for a while... If someone has the possibility, I'd appreciate it ^^
It's probably a dynamic upscaling thing. Lower original resolution means more dynamic upscaling on the hardware/software end of things, which may look worse than a manually upscaled version of the same file. Reasoning being that dynamic upscaling has to be done on the fly and thus can't be nearly as advanced as a manually upscaled version. My suggestion? Stick with true RAW sources of the highest (and most 'pure/untouched') quality for releases, and make upscales for your own use. Making an up/downscale is super easy, and it's ultimately better to let users do that themselves if that's what they want since otherwise the available downloads become littered with files that have been tampered with an unknown number of times... further confusing what the 'best' version is (which I think we all know is already brutal enough for SYD in particular).

Deadman80, thanks, I will try that. Later this week I'll take my files over to my friend's house, he has a 1080p tv. I will let you know if that shows the 720p to be worse than the other encodes. Thanks for the suggestion. eric
>So maybe I only assumed it was from a DVD, and really it was some Chinese guy’s stolen BD source AFAIK this wasn't released on BD, so no, that's impossible.

ok, so, for anyone still hanging in there with me and my flaws, I’ve loaded the very last (non-BD) versions of the movie and ova22 onto Mega. The versions there include the update of this version, (still with flac audio) plus the two different 576p versions of the movie, the one that uses flac, and one that uses AAC audio, (much smaller file size, and I can’t hear a difference. Some people’s players can’t use AAC I guess??) plus the original Chinese hard subbed movie, again with the best version of my subs. … though I wouldn’t blame you for giving up on my subs after all these damn minor fixes. The fifth file in the list is a different source for episode 22. If someone could tell me which one looks better to them, I would appreciate the input. anyway, here you are: https://mega.nz/#!KMlFwAST!PdWBA6eIgH1-J1eDIov0aPNejc_CjcbMlY_tIKUFiwQ https://mega.nz/#!fM8RQJCD!AnUxW3lg8WMZHaEql5s903VxhwoGdbg5mcGNNO3T9oQ https://mega.nz/#!qVlECKLY!Kf1ZLiuDZ7WZTojKfVoEGuNyRlfBYLjmZmgEYHvaou4 https://mega.nz/#!7UkSnapJ!rLVIbq8NeX1cJHJpKjutClajLmZcRGWisa9enwcBAFM https://mega.nz/#!TQ8WFCTA!r-gOYgib9KrWVYzH7_mcXc39l54hLyYbh3iu9ealZZs And if you don't want to bother, .... at this point I don't blame you. When the BD's come out, maybe I will just let someone else mux them :P It seems like every time I touch these, I make changes that end up making a mess of things. Anyway, thanks for putting up with me.
Thanks for the updated versions!

Jesus... The way they release those is so fucking confusing. So looking at this list - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Seitokai_Yakuindomo_episodes#Seitokai_Yakuindomo*_OVAs_(2014-2017) this is number 43. Was 41 and 42 ever subbed?

T65, the list is right about the total number... but no one uses the total number as part of the file or episode names... Most everyone breaks them into the two (so far) seasons.... In any case, 41 and 42, or as I think of it "season 2 episodes 20 and 21" .... are actually the 1 hour movie. ... to make it more confusing, the movie does not use the * "bleep" mark that goes with season two, it just calls itself the Seitokai Yakuindomo Movie... All of the confusion actually comes from the fansub community's mixed naming conventions.... There are 2 seasons, and most but not all of the "extra" episodes were released throughout multiple years as OAD's, - Original Animation DVD's ... specifically sold in combination with one of the comic book compellations... and then there are (if I remember correctly) a couple OVA's, Original Video Animation, which just means "an episode that goes straight to disc, never aired on tv, not sold with a comic"... So.... all of the confusion comes from the naming sense. Some people name them by season, and include that season's OAD's and OVA's in the number total. Some people only number the tv episodes as part of the season, and number the OAD's and OVA's as unique episodes... It is confusing as heck. If you search Nyaa, you CAN find them all, in good quality. Most of the OAD's were later released in BD collections, but not all of them. So you can find some of the "OAD/OVA's" in 720p, possibly 1080p?? but some are only available in DVD quality, which is 480p, or 576p...

Anyway, a couple different people have subbed the movie now, and there may be more people trying to get it out... In December, a chinese bootleg 1080p version of the movie was available, but it has chinese subtitles hardsubbed in, they can't be turned off. Plus a watermark in the top right corner.... still, if you want to watch it in 1080p, that Chinese source is your only choice right now... it's one of the Mega links in my chat message 3 up from this one. I fit the subtitles around the chinese subs so there wouldn't be overlapping, which is less readable, I think. I considered putting black bars behind my subs so the chinese words would be hidden, but I didn't like the look. Incidentally, if you want to get all the Seitokai episodes in BD (or best available) quality from one location, in "aired order", you can become a member of Hi10Anime (it's free), if you don't mind what some people call "bitraped" videos... highly compressed videos, but in a way that's well done, in my opinion.... Makes file sizes very small. but color fidelity suffers, I guess? I don't notice it. Just to take away some of the confusion. They have everything in season 1 ordered as it came out, and everything in season 2 except the movie, I think. Anyway, if you dl'd my subs, hope they were appealing. ericfromabeno
