since the honorifics track isn’t in japanese, it doesn’t make much sense to tag the track as japanese…

Actually it does make sense to tag it as Japanese. If your video player lets you set the default subs to JPN then ENG, then you don’t have to keep changing them every episode. Tagging them as the same language just makes it more difficult to play your preferred subs automatically.
