About the Criterion CAV LaserDisc transfer: > Akira was transferred from a newly created print with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The Sound was taken from a Dolby surround encoded pcm 1630 digital audio master tape. 48 kHz PCM track from shonenbat's Criterion CAV LaserDisc-to-DVD rip synced to IT 30th Anniversary/Bandai BDs and encoded to FLAC. Not from a bit-perfect source because DVD-video doesn't support 44.1 kHz. The Funimation BD track is derived from the same materials as the Criterion LD, but it is inferior to the Criterion LD because some scenes were remixed more or less in mono with low quality stems. They did this to fix issues that could have been addressed without having to dig up low quality stems. __[00:57:51 - 00:58:22]__ Remixed in Funi BD because this scene runs a few frames shorter in the dub. This scene ends with white noise that could have been repeated, which is what I did. __[01:27:59 - 01:28:20]__ Remixed in Funi BD to fix sound effect that is cut short at the end of the scene. This could have been fixed by only replacing the incomplete sound effect. You can guess what my approach was. __[01:55:00 - 01:58:47]__ Remixed in Funi BD to fix a timing issue caused by 5 missing film frames (209ms) in the dub. The missing frames occur when Kei is looking for Kaneda around 01:58:25. Since there is only one off-screen line (Kei yelling "Kaneda!"), I left about 20 seconds of audio out of sync by 209ms until the music was over. I consider that to be a lesser evil than completely downgrading almost four minutes of audio. Maybe there are more remixed parts, but I don't care enough to do further investigation. I should also mention that a single audio pop in the Criterion audio rip was repaired using Funimation BD audio. ###### *Yes, I'm aware that it's actually dubbed by Electric Media and not by Streamline Pictures.*
