Orphan Fansubs is extremely happy to present the first English version of Tezuka Osamu’s 1965(!) TV special, Shin Takarajima (New Treasure Island). Animated in glorious black-and-white, this early work by Mushi Productions retells Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure story, but with animals as characters. It hews somewhat closely to the book’s plot, but it still includes Tezuka’s trademarks: good action scenes, the occasional anachronism, and laugh-out-loud slapstick gags.
