Orphan and Inka present another long-lost anime, 1997’s historical saga Bakumatsu no Spasibo (Gratitude in the Bakumatsu), It recounts Russian admiral Yevfimy Vasilyevich Putyatin’s second voyage to Japan in 1854-55. During that mission, he negotiated the Treaty of Shimoda, which opened relations between Japan and Russia. VHS rip. See this blog entry for more details.
