It’s been many years, but I still lament for the missing episodes of Bubblegum Crisis using Kenichi Sonoda’s character designs. Kenichi Sonoda is currently the 19th head of the wagashi confectionery shop “Sonoda-ya” in Kumamoto, Japan. It was a family business and he had to give up being a character designer in order to take over the family business. He was under pressure to take over as his family business has been around since 1582 and it would have been a shame to sell it to some other corporation as a sub-brand. Of note is that he has done character illustrations for some of the confection products. You can see some illustration examples used on the confections at their shop site: https://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/sonodaya/ and I can assume that unless he gets back into the media industry, those illustrations in doujinshi sold inside the shop are the latest illustrations in existence.

Some of the furnishings in the shop are ancient as they use wooden pegs instead of nails or screws. Yes, there is a photo of doujinshi sold inside the shop.
