_Down Town_ is a six-track EP, a collaboration between the chiptune trio YMCK and the electronic-pop artist De De Mouse (Daisuke Endou). YMCK came together in 2003, consisting of: 1. Midori Kurihara: Vocals 2. Takeshi Yokemura: Music, Lyrics 3. Tomoyuki Nakamura: Music, Art Direction I make it a point to credit Nakamura with "Art Direction" because the 8-bit pixel art style of YMCK's work is an important, non-trivial element of their music. If you look at the cover and insert art of any YMCK album the music _feels_ like an appropriate soundtrack for the world portrayed by the graphics; the same is true of all their music videos, which Nakamura also directs. Daisuke Endou, better known as De De Mouse, has an equal mixture of graphical aesthetic with his music. Although in his case Midori Kawano is the principle artist responsible for his album artwork and music videos. While not a chiptune musician---not exclusively anyway like YMCK---the synth-pop melodies of De De Mouse are a wonderful complement to the retro-gaming stylings of YMCK. I uploaded one of his albums a couple of years ago but it's not seeded anymore; I will re-rip and re-upload it if anyone is interested. As I said, _Down Town_ is a six-track EP. YMCK is responsible for the odd-numbered tracks, and De De Mouse the even-numbered ones. Thus the entire EP is a flip-flop, back-and-forth between the two artists, and the juxtapositions demonstrate how well the two accompany each other. De De Mouse does not sing; he either uses samples or, in this case, has guest vocalists. Therefore _Down Town_ features vocals by Moumoon, Kotoringo, and Hitomi Yoi (tracks two, four, and six, respectively). For those of you who haven't seen my uploads before, since I've been away for over a year, I just want to say that my primary intent is to share older music from Japanese musicians which might be unfamiliar or unknown to many people. Or to put it another way, I _rarely_ upload new releases because a lot of awesome people here already do a wonderful job of that. So my goal instead is to introduce you all to some hidden gems out there in the massive wealth of Japanese music that exists. I have a collection of just over four-thousand albums and singles, spanning many years, primarily the early 90's to the mid-2000's. If any of you have any requests please don't hesitate to ask. If I have music by an artist you'd like to hear then I'll be happy to search through my collection for anything I can share. As I always like to say, enjoy the music everyone!
