x264 8bit crf 15.6, aq 1.05 just in case. opening and ending zoned to crf 20. effort. ordered chapter is too much effort. QAAC q127. if i encoded with flac, audio is 120MB, with max aac quality it's 48MB. subs is horriblesubs. but what about banding? i added grains. i'm sorry it's static grains. you can see it during pan and scan in dark scenes. if i used normal grains, that would kill the compressibility. it's a tradeoff. hevc btfo. https://nyaa.iss.one/view/956097

Dithering from 16bit to 10bit instead of 8bit would also help against banding :>

lol. you're not going to convince him, eXmendiC. Shirohamada uses 8-bit on purpose. I seem to recall it's for a streaming device, since he doesn't personally need subs.
Maybe I'll put as much effort in blacklisting his tag, which means about zero.

>wasting my potato cpu cycle on placebo 16butt to 10butt. send me a threadripper. i'll change my ways. can't watch your 10butts on my toaster.
Avoiding banding with 8bit is almost impossible if you don't want to add grain. So 10bit isn't really placebo. But just curious, what PC do you have when it can't play 10bit? I have an almost 5 years old notebook and it can play 10bit without issues.
>HorribleSubs RIP, this is one of their terrible TLs going by a lot of screenshots.

not playback problem. i used to have an arm toaster for playback. not anymore since i have an extra laptop for the tv. dithering in high bit slows down encoding. this is what i said placebo, not encoding in 10bit. there are benefits in 10bit. for sakura quest, i can say, a straight gradfun3 is enough pre processing for 10bit encode. anyway, this is obviously a hevc bait thread. x265 is slow as mollusk anyway. pls send threadripper. and the hage guy, i’m only interested in compressing chinese cartoons. not subs. it’s softsubs, so do it yourself.
Are these subs actually using correct (Japanese) name order and honorifics? Because horriblesubs/crunchy are terrible about that this season. The TL from them was horrendous.

if you send me threadripper i'll correct subs or whatever you want. even r7 1700 will do.
MKVtoolnix (and MKVExtractGUI) + Aegisubs would get the job done. That's how I fix them. I always just hope some people have the decency to give correct subs for Japanese anime instead of the shitty dub-like quality to having western name orders and zero honorifics (and zero respect for the Japanese language). It takes time, but it's worth it.
you call not using honorifics disrespectful? lol
@futagen this translation is completely off. Adding honorifics won't help in this case unfortunately, because - as you said - they localized it completely. This series just begs for retranslation.
